Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding to create a masterplan and business case to guide all future works at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. The purpose of the masterplan is to include upgrade plans for the infrastructure, kiosk area, toilets/shower facilities, onsite storage, the main entrance, swimming club house and any new infrastructure that will enhance the aquatic centre. 

 

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding to complete major upgrades to the Cobar Youth and Fitness Centre now known as the Cobar Youth and Community Centre. Upgrades included re-roofing the centre, a new entrance, new kitchen office/service desk, new outdoor decking area, installation of a lift, and opening up the spaces within the centre. These upgrades provide the community with a more user-friendly building 

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding to re-align both ovals at Ward Oval. These upgrades included installing new irrigation, new fencing and gates and constructing a concrete walking path around both ovals.  This project increases the usability of the ovals and is an asset to the local community and sporting groups. 

Project Summary

Wilga Downs road (shire road 26) has been sealed an extra 14km worth to link existing sealed sections. This is from the Kidman Highway to the Shire boundary. This project creates an all-weather road for its full length.

The Wool Track road received a 5km seal extension which was completed with a bitumen cover and associated landmarking. This project creates an all weather road for safer travel.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to replace the toilet facilities at Euabalong showground/racecourse. This project replaced old aging infrastructure to provide the Euabalong community with high quality facilities.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council has received funding to install a new bus shelter at the Cobar High School bus stop. This new shelter will provide students protection from the high forty degree summer months and the cold/windy winters.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to upgrade 2 carparks one behind the Grand Hotel and another at the Town Hall.  Each carpark provides community members a safe place to park their vehicles.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to extend the existing bus shelter/taxi rank located on the corner of Linsley and Marshall Street. This bus shelter is used by the NSW train link service which arrives in Cobar twice a day.

Cobar Shire Council received funding from NSW Government Drought Communities Program to create a photo wall along the Caravan Park fence. The photo wall highlights Cobar’s best attractions, mining history and the towns’ identity. This project improves the aesthetics of the area while also encouraging tourists to explore the town of Cobar.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding from Local Roads Community Infrastructure to invest in the beautification of the township. Multiple projects were completed to enhance the beautification including:

  • A welcoming “Cobar” sign was constructed at the Northern entrance to Cobar.
  • Several landscaping projects around the township.
  • A painted mural at the Newey Reservoir.
  • Artwork painted on the electrical boxes in the main street.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding from NSW Drought Communities Programs round 2 to upgrade the footpaths within Cobar. In line with council’s AOP, ATP and PAMP council upgraded and constructed new footpaths that were identified as a priority. This project ensured more accessible routes within the township of Cobar. 

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding from NSW Government Drought Communities round 1 to build and construct a new Cobar sign on the Western entrance. This new sign enhances the towns beautification. 

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council converted a Council house into a community facility with the aim of the building to be used as a Girl Guides Hall. This project was jointly funded by the NSW Governments Stronger Country Communities Fund round 2 and Cobar Shire Council.

Project Summary

Cobar Miners Memorial project was jointly funded by the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund, the Australia Governments Building Better Regions Fund, community fund raising and the Cobar Shire Council.  The Cobar Miners Memorial was built in the Cobar Heritage Park. It’s a place for reflection and to remember the 180 men who have lost their lives in the mines of Cobar Shire.

Project Summary

Stage 1 upgrades to the Great Cobar Museum were jointly funded by Cobar Shire Council, the NSW Government Regional Cultural Fund Round 2 and Far Northwest Joint Organisation. This project consisted of restoration works to bring the historical building back to its former glory and preserve it for the future. In addition to the restoration works new exhibitions were installed to enhance the visiting experience. 

The Great Cobar Museum wins 3 awards at the National Trust Heritage Awards 2022

The Great Cobar Museum and Dunn and Hillam Architects have recently been awarded with the top prize along with 2 other major awards at the National Trust (NSW) Heritage Awards 2022. The National Trust Heritage Awards is an annual celebration of outstanding practice in the field of heritage, awarding excellence in conversation, protection, and interpretation of aboriginal, built, natural and cultural heritage over the past year.

 

The Great Cobar Museum and Dunn and Hillam Architects took out the judge’s choice award following the completion of stage 1 project renewing and restoring the old heritage building. The Great Cobar Museum also won the conservation – build heritage award and a highly commended in conversation – interior and objects category.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding by NSW Government Showground Stimulus Funding Program and Local Roads and Community Infrastructure to upgrade the horse stables at Ward Oval. The old stables were demolished as they were past the useful life. 90 new overnight stables were installed with electricity and water accessible. The upgrades ensure all users have access to complaint, safe and user-friendly stables.

Cobar Shire Council received funding from NSW Government Drought Communities Program Round 2 to install toilets at Dalton Park Horse Complex. Dalton Park Horse Complex is home to 7 user groups and has minimum of 5 major events held there annually. This project was completed in April 2021

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure fund to install 2 new shade structures and to upgrade the rotunda in Drummond Park. A shade structure was installed over the BBQ area and another over the toilet block. The structures provide the community with much needed shade during the warmer months. The rotunda in the park received upgrades which will ensure it is structurally sound for many more years to come.

Cobar Shire Council received funding by NSW Government Drought Communities Program Round 2 to construct a shade cover over the BBQ area at Dalton Park in Cobar. This project provides the community with a shaded area over the BBQ.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding to seal the Pullpulla road from the barrier highway to the entrance into Mt Grenfell reserve. The 29km road was graded and compacted to subgrade standard with a 150mm depth compacted gravel.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to install a shade structure over the large 50m pool at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. This project provides children with shade while marshalling at carnivals and swimmers at other related events.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to install a new accessibility ramp at the Country Women’s Association building. Most of the CWA members include the elderly this project is ensuring these ladies have safe access to a building which is used regularly for events and meetings.

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding by Country Passenger Transport Infrastructure Grants Scheme to provide the village of Euabalong with new bus shelters. Euabalong bus shelters required upgrading as most children living in the village travel to and from Lake Cargelligo to attend High School and some to the primary school. The shelters are being used daily by local students and providing them a safe place out of the elements. 

 

This project was completed in November 2019. 

Project Summary

Cobar Shire Council received funding from NSW Government Stronger Country Community Fund Round 2 to provide the village of Nymagee with a public accessible toilet. This project was completed in December 2020.

Project Summary

The upgrades to the Euabalong playground were funded by the NSW Government Drought Communities Program. This project included installation of new playground equipment and soft fall to improve the safety of the park.

Cobar Shire Council received funding to provide the Nymagee community with upgrades to the tennis and cricket shed. Upgrades include internal and external works to the roof, windows, doors, new kitchenette and rewired electrical.
